What does AI mean for your business?
Nov 11, 2024Since ChatGPT exploded onto the scene, AI momentum has been growing at a hurtling speed. Google, Meta et al have been launching their own versions, and what’s clear is that AI is here to stay.
The question is: what should we be doing about it?
Regulation of AI on a wider scale is critical to protect us all, but on a business level, you’ll also need to be considering how it could affect you.
And specifically, whether you make it part of the way your business operates or not.
Consider how AI fits in your business
There are a few potential issues with allowing your employees to use AI tools, and while many of them might not be insurmountable, they still require thinking through if you’re to avoid issues:
-
Accuracy. If your employees use AI tools carte blanche, without fact checking the responses, you run the risk of false information being propagated by your business.
-
Copyright. If your employees need to create content, either as part of your proposition or to market it, there are potential copyright issues associated with using AI to generate it.
-
Data protection. These language models are trained on text from the internet, running the risk of personal information being processed, potentially breaching data protection laws.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there’s a lot more to it, but these are just three reasons why the answer isn’t just as simple as, “Yes, of course you can use ChatGPT” – this requires real thinking.
