Employment Contracts
If you're not issuing valid contracts to your team, you're immediately starting from a position of weakness.
We'll create employment contracts that protect your business, clearly set out expectations, and ensure you're compliant with current UK employment law.
Why Employment Contracts Matter
Here's the thing: a lot of business owners either don't issue contracts at all, use outdated templates they've downloaded from the internet, or rely on contracts that haven't been reviewed in years.
And that's a problem. Because when things go wrong - and eventually, something will, you need contracts that actually protect you.
Without proper employment contracts in place, you're vulnerable to:
- Tribunal claims that could have been avoided
- Disputes over pay, hours, or job responsibilities
- Confusion about notice periods, sick pay, or disciplinary procedures
- Arguments about what was or wasn't agreed when someone started
- Legal costs defending yourself when you didn't have to
Employment contracts aren't just a legal requirement. They are the foundation of every employment relationship. Get them right, and you've got clarity, protection, and peace of mind. Get them wrong, and you're exposed.

The Problem With DIY Contracts
We see it all the time: business owners using contracts they've downloaded from the internet, borrowed from another business, or cobbled together from various sources.
The problem? Those contracts are rarely fit for purpose.
Generic templates don't account for your specific business needs, your industry requirements, or your particular circumstances. They're often outdated, missing key clauses, or worse, contain terms that are unenforceable.
And when you end up at a tribunal, that "free" contract you downloaded could end up costing you thousands.
Our employment contracts are:
- Tailored to your business – not one-size-fits-all
- Written in plain English – so everyone understands them
- Legally robust – drafted by qualified HR professionals
- Up to date – reflecting the latest employment law changes
Different Contracts For Different Roles
Not every role needs the same type of contract. We'll help you understand what you need and create the right contracts for your team:
Permanent Employees
Full employment contracts covering all core terms, protections, and procedures for ongoing staff members.
Fixed Term Contracts
Time-limited agreements that protect both you and your employee when you need temporary cover or project-based staff.
Part Time And Flexible Workers
Contracts that clearly set out working patterns, hours, and pro-rata entitlements for part-time and flexible staff.
Zero Hours Contracts
Where appropriate, we'll create compliant zero-hours agreements that protect your flexibility while respecting workers' rights.
Directors And Senior Staff
Enhanced contracts with additional protections, restrictive covenants, and appropriate terms for senior roles.
Probationary Periods
Clear terms that protect your business during the probationary period and set out review processes.
Updating Existing Contracts
Perhaps you've already got contracts in place, but they're old, outdated, or not quite right.
We'll review your existing employment contracts and identify any gaps, risks, or areas where you're not properly protected. Then we'll help you update them properly and legally, so everyone's on the same page and your business is safe.
You can't just change contracts unilaterally. There's a process to follow, and we'll guide you through it to make sure you do it right and avoid potential claims.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to give employees a contract?
Yes. By law, you must provide employees with a written statement of their main terms and conditions within two months of them starting work. However, it's best practice (and much safer) to give them a full employment contract on or before their first day.
Can I use the same contract for everyone?
Not really. While some terms will be the same, different roles need different contracts. A senior manager needs different protections and terms than a part-time shop assistant. We'll create role-specific contracts that work for each position.
What happens if I need to change someone's contract?
You can't just change an employment contract unilaterally—that could lead to a breach of contract claim. We'll guide you through the proper process of varying contracts, whether through agreement, consultation, or, where necessary, termination and re-engagement.
Are online contract templates good enough?
In a word: no. Generic templates don't account for your specific business, industry, or circumstances. They're often outdated and may include unenforceable terms. Our tailored contracts are designed specifically for your business and kept up to date with the latest employment law.
How much does it cost?
Every business is different, which is why we tailor our services to your needs. Book a free discovery call and we'll discuss your situation and provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs. For retained clients, employment contract creation and updates are usually included in your monthly retainer.
What about probationary periods?
Probationary periods are an important protection for employers, but they need to be handled correctly in the contract. We'll make sure your probationary terms are clear, enforceable, and actually give you the flexibility you need during those crucial first months.
